And no, I don’t mean because I’m actually posting something.
First, here’s more of the same:
Has this been the longest winter ever?
This picture was taken about a week and a half ago. Luckily, this was the last big snowstorm we’ve had. And I mean that: It better be the last big snowstorm we have this year.
Look at all that snow behind my sad, sad face. I’m over you, winter.
So, now for the something different. I’ve never put a video on my blog before. This “accent vlog” has been making its way around the blog world, and I thought it was interesting, so I made my own video last week! And now I’m finally posting it. I hope you like it, despite the fact that I sound like a bit of a tool. Here are the list of words and questions you’ll hear me read and answer:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
- What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
- What is the bug that, when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
- What do you call gym shoes?
- What do you say to address a group of people?
- What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
- What do you call your grandparents?
- What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
- What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
- What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
So do I sound totally weird? Most of you who read my blog already know what I sound like, and I’m angry that you didn’t tell me that this is what I sound like! I need to go back to my radio show tapes from college to see if I sounded like this on those. Yikes. Anyway, do you all say those words like that? And would you answer any of those questions differently? Also, I’m a little sad that Paul’s face on my Beatles poster got blocked out by the reflection of my light, which you may notice I’m trying to cover up with my big ol’ noggin.
Check back soon for some new content! I still have photos from my mom’s birthday dinner to put up here. And I should have something new on Tuesday to share with you!

Nice to hear your voice! Salmon has a “l” in it, lol.

I have family near Albany but I live in AZ. I say most of those things the same way you do… And I agree that bugs are nasty! Especially spiders.
Your voice sounds fine. I didn’t think it was weird at all but personally im the one who is too self consious of my voice to put up a video!

Ricky and Jamie: Thanks for stopping by my blog! So exciting to see new people here. You should totally do a video, Jamie. I was nervous at first, actually, but it’s fun!

I think you call the bug with the long legs, “Miriam, come kill this!”

Miriam: I think I actually call it, “Miiiiirrrrriiiiaaaammmm! Come here, quiiiiiiick!”

you call them running shoes because that is what your cool canadian family calls them. do you sneak three miles a day? it is also pop. not soda. talia will tell you that it is a clicker and not a remote.

umm, I am about to listen to Sara’s video. But just this evening, that same child was looking everywhere for the REMOTE so she could watch Yo Gabba Gabba. She does use them interchangeably. It is most definitely NOT the “converter,” as my husband, the b-i-l, might say.

Also, what’s with the first list? No qs for that.
And You skipped what you call a group of people. I am guessing you say “you guys” not “y’all.” When I was in Georgia, they called Hershey Kisses “silver bells.”
I use all sorts of weird words from living in the south and Canada. Don’t order soda here…you’ll get seltzer. Don’t look for seltzer here…you won’t find it (remember?). No sneakers, just running shoes. You wipe your hands with a serviette after you eat your meal with cutlery and wash it down with pop. You might see your (any ethnic name will do) grandparents or perhaps your auntie. If you make a mistake writing with your pencil crayons, you may need to use your rubber to correct it (I was a little shocked when I heard that). Bunch them all up and use an elastic to hold those together. Turn off the light because you don’t want the hydro bill to be too high. Just wear warmer track pants if you’re cold. Or wear a toque if you have to.
Oh, and it’s a buggy here. I still call it a shopping cart.

R.P.: Video blog. Better? How about if I just say video?
#1 b-i-l: Sometimes I do have to sneak a few miles in.
b-i-l’s wife: You’re just supposed to read the words. Listen to other vlogs to hear how people say them differently. And didn’t I say something at some point about how I thought I said “hey guys” when I started the video? Maybe not; I recorded it twice (techinical difficulties), so maybe I said it the first time. And I like all the weird ways you say things! Crazy Canucks. And it’s apparently buggy in the south, too. Strange.

What a fun post!
By the way: The big fuzzy rodent says that winter is almost over – I want to believe!
Keep the posts coming!

Mama: Don’t say rodent!
2-16-2011 at 19:36:08
But do you say “groundhog” or “woodchuck” to describe the rodent?
Also, I was going to say you say “pop” in the South. But then I thought about it and remembered in Atlanta you just say “Coke.”

NO RODENTS EVER!!!

I thought the carbonated beverage was champagne. But I guess it could be soda. Definitely not pop. Oh, an rubbers are supposed to prevent mistakes, not erase them! Cute vlog.

Yay! I was finally able to find a computer in Afghanistan that allows access to your blog… although I still can’t watch the embedded YouTube video
Look at all of the snow in those pictures, that’s crazy! I hope all is well in the States, I apologize it took me so long to read your blog!
