No, not together.
I went for a run one evening last week. As I started down my street, I thought it was raining. But it wasn’t. I was being attacked by a swarm of bugs. I thought I was safe once I got off my street, but my entire loop was infested with these tiny bugs. I couldn’t wait to get home to take a shower because they were all over me. I coughed, and two came out of my throat. They were stuck in my hair, on the back of my neck, and up my nose. And the worst part? I found about a dozen of them inside my sports bra. Not kidding. Want to see what they looked like?
Do you really think I took a picture of my insect-infested cleavage?
It was super gross. I spared you.
Last Thursday was pizza night! I took photos of my pizza making so you can learn how to make your own super delicious pizza (it was; just ask Miriam!).
Prepare your vegetables first (wash and chop). And that’s fresh basil back there, too!
A light sauté is all they need. The basil is not in there; save it for later!
Next: Open your pre-made crust. This one is tasty but a bit expensive. I wish I had some Trader Joe’s whole wheat pizza dough.
Cover your crust with a little garlic powder, dried basil, and dried oregano. And hope that no one notices that it was broken in half when you took it out of the package.
You didn’t forget to grate some cheese, did you? Of course not.
Top the crust with sauce, then cheese, then the lightly sautéed vegetables. This is also when you sprinkle on the chopped fresh basil. Add some more dried oregano, too, for good measure.
Time to cook! The directions on the pizza crust said to preheat the oven to 450 degrees, then turn it down to 425 to cook the pizza. I think I set it for 12 minutes but ended up leaving it in for 15 or so. Just keep an eye on it and remove it when the cheese gets all brown and bubbly. (When I used the TJ’s pizza dough, I precooked the dough, so you’ll have to play around with your recipe a bit to see what works with what you use.)
And…pizza time!
Yum! And yes, I used the break as a cutting guideline.
Always serve with a salad so you don’t feel bad about how many pieces you devour. It’s all about balance.
Doesn’t that look good? Almost made you forget about the bugs, right?

Your pizza looks very yummy! You could be the next Food Network star!!! What else can you describe as you make it?
Sorry about the bugs but it could be worse. We had a small problem at work this week but it has been resolved. A different kind of bug, and I don’t mean a virus.

Looks dee-lish! I like how you have the little spinach (?) salad garnish.
What veggies are in your mix? Have you ever tried dicing eggplant on your pizza? It’s a delicious alternative to an eggplant parm sub.
Oh, and until the end of your post, I did forget about the bugs. Sounds like the bedbugs from NYC have moved upstate…

Never, ever forget about the bugs:
Never forget about the Bugs!

Lil: I’m no Aarti Party. And I’m guessing you’re talking about lice. When I worked at camp, I had to send out “the letter” three years in a row. That would be the letter stating that someone at camp had lice. I also had gloves thrown at me so I could check heads. Luckily, I didn’t find bugs in anyone’s hair. I probably would’ve passed out.
JP’s Dad: You can’t tell from the first picture? I used broccoli, zucchini, and three mini peppers (one red, one orange, and one yellow). I’ve never used eggplant, though I’m sure it’s delicious. And that is indeed spinach, though it was a bigger salad than it appears (and I had eaten a spinach salad for lunch, too; I eat a lot of salad). And it’s too bad that you can’t embed pictures in the comments; everyone, go look at Bugs!

Hooray – a new post.
Next time you could save me a little taste of that fine looking pizza – without bugs, of course!
JP’s Dad – I expect a tasty home made pizza when I visit. Let the pizza wars begin!!

I prefer to hide the vegetables under the cheese. Not that I ever make pizza anymore, since I’m the only one in the house currently eating bread products (boo), but when I DO make it, the cheese always goes on last.

Mama: You’ll have to talk to Miriam about saving you a piece next time. She’s the one who finished the last of it!
Kristin: I know some people always put the cheese on last, and I was thinking about posing that question here: cheese before toppings or toppings before cheese? I may try it your method next time. And what’s with the no bread? *Gasp.* It’s all about balance, folks!

Both A. and the MiL have gluten sensitivities. Not Celiac, but they avoid gluten when they can. Which leaves me as the sole member of the household who can digest bread.
I hope Cubby takes after me so I can convince the MiL to start making bread again . . .
9-2-2010 at 14:46:41
Kristin: I hope so, too. If not, perhaps your MiL would like to bake some bread for you to share with me!

Not lice….see JP Dad’s post.

Lil: Rabbits?! Just kidding. You must be referring to JP’s Dad’s comment (not post) about bed bugs. Yuck. May as well be lice.

singular. bug.

I am having the exact same problems when I go running down here! It’s gross, I finish running and I’m covered with bugs/nats. I end up running the entire time with my hand over my mouth
What happened to the Trader Joe’s whole wheat crust? You turned me on to that and I love it… should I be switching over to this new crust???
9-3-2010 at 09:33:59
Ryan: Ugh, it was so gross. They were unavoidable. It hasn’t been like that since; it had been raining on and off for days, so I blame the dampness.
No, you should definitely use the TJ’s whole wheat crust! We just don’t have a Trader Joe’s up here, and I only bought them the one time I traveled to one. Sad. I have to go back!

oh man! I hate bugs, I would have freaked out!
I love veggies on my pizza. Looks great
9-3-2010 at 14:49:03
Amanda: Thanks for stopping by! And yes, veggies are great. Bugs are not. Also not great: flailing your arms around the entire time you’re running in order to swat away swarms of bugs.

I’ve had the bug thing happen to me. No fun.
9-4-2010 at 20:31:20
Ok, the pizza was yummy. Sorry, Mama, for not saving you any. Next time we will.
Bugs are disgusting. I hate them. But I will kill them if they are in your bedroom!
If you put your toppings under your cheese, does that no longer make them toppings? Discuss.
