Dude, running is hard. Really hard. As you may recall, I have bad knees. More specifically, I was having a huge problem with my left knee last month. And, you may recall that I’m not a great runner as it is. My left knee has been feeling better, and I’ve been running decently. Last weekend, I ran my 4.41-mile route on Saturday and did fine. I took the same route on Sunday, and it was disastrous. My knees hurt pretty badly, and my right knee was particularly sore. And the right knee still hasn’t recovered. I went on the same route today and slowly finished, but my right knee apparently hates me. Seriously, can’t you cut me some slack, knees? Actually, I think it’s my fault. I have a few of Jillian Michaels’ videos, and a few days before last weekend, I had done this:
Stop pointing at me, Jillian.
This DVD is serious. And there are many lunges. Many, many, many lunges. Which I blame for my disastrous Sunday and painful week. Fair? Maybe not. But there it is. I hope my knees will stop rebelling soon so I can get back to exercising the way I want to.
You know what else I’d like to do? Be able to blog on my own computer. I’m using Miriam’s (thanks!) because my computer has crapped out again. Actually, it was being really slow earlier, so I did a scan; looks like it was infected with a virus. It still wasn’t working after deleting the files, so I went to do a system restore (yay, last week!), but now it seems like it may have crashed again. Or maybe it just overheated (again). Either way, it’s not working right now. I’ll blame my annoyance with my computer for all my snacking this evening.
And now I must go to sleep. I guess this wasn’t the month when I started blogging regularly after all. I don’t think this will be the week where that starts either. I have to work some weird hours, and I have to fit that all in by Thursday afternoon, before the vacation starts. What’s that? A vacation? Mmmhmm, that’s right. Perhaps I’ll post about it sometime.

That Jillian, she is a destroyer of joints. A saver of lives but a destroyer of joints. I agree, running is HARD. You need some low impact, baby. Lucky for me, cooking and blogging is low impact
Always happy to see a post from you!

Totally agree that running is hard…and I’m not even dealing with any big injuries. My half marathon is in 3 weeks and I may never run again. Ok that’s probably not true but man…it’s tough. I hope you’re knees get with the program and start being nice to you!

Mama Pea: Thanks for stopping by! Perhaps I should take up cooking and blogging.
I have done some lower impact exercise, such as pilates, but I get so bored. And I do like sweating a lot so I feel like I’ve worked hard. Lucky for me, I sweat like a 400-pound man, so that’s not too difficult! What, too much information?
Oh, and I’m responding from my own computer! A second restore to about ten days ago seems to have done the trick. For now.

Hallie: I love reading your running recaps because I can really relate to them. Although you certainly run more than I do! But we have similar issues with running, and we often run at about the same pace (I can’t relate to most bloggers on that one!). Good luck on your half, and take care of your knees!

I am sorry that I am taking more of your time this week too.
As for the knees, you need to go back to the doctor and have him do an mri to find out what is happening. No more fooling around. You don’t need to be as silly as your mother and her feet.
No more lectures. Love you and thank you.

Mama: Don’t be sorry about it! It’s fine; I’m just rearranging my time, same as you. Feel free to bring me many coffees, though.

Know what I hate? Jillian Michaels. Know what I hate more? RUNNING. Srsly. I KNOW that some people love it, but I cannot COMPREHEND how this is possible. Especially when every runner I pass on the road always looks completely miserable.

JT: I do not love running. But I do like feeling like my ass just got kicked. Since I hate working out, I’d rather at least feel like I got the most bang for my buck. And by that, I apparently mean excruciating knee pain.

jillian is HARDCORE, man.hope your knees are feeling better

Shannon: Thanks! And yes, Jillian is hardcore. That’s what I like about the videos: They’re all business and then you’re done (and collapse into a heap). What I don’t like about them: They’re hardcore and I collapse into a heap when I’m done. A big, ol’, sweaty heap.
Now all I can think is this: “The Trash Heap has spoken!” Anyone?

And this time, I don’t mean my boy Timberlake. Who likes running? It sucks. Yoga and weights. Your limbs will thank you.
Skip Jillian and take up Harley Pasternack. I am all about this Toronto boy’s take – 5 minutes is enough of everything for me.
7-26-2010 at 17:57:57
I am with JT: I’m going to check out some of your boy’s videos on Exercise TV. Harley, I mean, not Justin.

It’s about time we had a new post!
Your running puts me to shame! How do you track how far you run? You’re very specific with your “4.41 miles.”
7-28-2010 at 02:09:34
Ryan: I’ve used walkjogrun.com or mapmyrun.com to figure out the mileage for my usual routes. I wish I could say it was because I was using my Garmin Forerunner 305 like all the cool bloggers, but I cannot. And my running wouldn’t put you to shame, believe me.

Omg I have knee issues and the NMTZ dvd sometimes really irritates them. That dvd is intense!
8-4-2010 at 09:37:32
Amanda: Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Yes, that DVD isintense! I feel pretty roughed up when I’m done with it. I don’t do it that often anymore.

Is there a way that Jillian can take care of my trouble zones without causing me pain? She just scares me.

Have you seen “Losing it With Jillian”? Samantha and I can’t get enough. If you have On Demand, you should definitely check it out. Hope your knees feel better.
8-21-2010 at 00:28:25
Josh: Thanks for stopping by! I did indeed watch all of Losing It. Want to know my secret? I’ve never watched an entire season of The Biggest Loser. The only times I’ve watched it is when I’ve gotten sucked into post-season marathons on random channels. Weird! But Jillian is hardcore.
