My life is food. Well, I just like to eat. Too much. And I read a lot of food blogs (such as Eat, Live, Run, Kath Eats, Hangry Pants, and Carrots ‘N’ Cake, just to name a few). And I try to be healthy; I exercise and I try to eat well, but I tend to overeat, and I’m trying to overcome that. I was thinking about posting more of my meals. I wouldn’t turn this into a full food diary type of blog because, well, that would really be boring for everyone (for example, would you really want to see a daily photo of yogurt, a banana, and cereal, which is usually my breakfast every day at work?). But planning to post a bit every day could help me be honest with myself about my food intake. Because as it is right now, I’m not telling you about my nightly snack(s). But maybe I wouldn’t get to that "I have to hide it" stage if I promise myself to be honest about it in this open setting. And I’d rather be proud of what I’m writing about (like when I’ve posted about exercising). So if you start to see a bunch of food/meal posts, it’s because I’m trying to hold myself accountable. Oh, and I can write about whatever I want!
That said, no one really reads this blog anyway, so it really would be just a journal for myself. (Thank you, Kristin, for continuing to read and comment even though I’ve been so bad about commenting on your blog. I have an excuse: I often read your blog at work, and I’ve stopped commenting on blogs while at work, since putting my name in there often logs me into various accounts. I’ll get in trouble. Big Brother is watching.) So, on that note, this week’s journal would include some tasty items:
This pizza was made on Trader Joe’s whole wheat dough, which I defrosted yet found it was way easier to handle than fresh dough. I topped it with sauce, mozzarella cheese, sautéed peppers, zucchini, and broccoli, sliced tomatoes, and fresh basil (from Mama’s plant). And it was delicious! There was just enough left over from Thursday night’s dinner to have for lunch on Friday.
On Saturday, I made some banana muffins:
The pan on the left has peanut butter chips while the one on the right has chocolate chips. The second and third photos are just different views of the two pans of mini muffins. I was trying to be artsy.
My John Lemon cutting board! It’s glass and actually hard to cut on, so I use it as a hot plate. The muffins were on top of it. Isn’t it the best? My sister has Tina Turnip, and I got my mom the Elvis Parsley version.
Yikes. I hadn’t showered yet. But I’m totally rockin’ that cow apron, don’t you think?
I also made some guacamole, which isn’t pictured because it wasn’t quite finished. After mashing everything together, I realized that I didn’t have any cilantro. Neither did any of the grocery stores I visited yesterday (and I went to three!). And then the guac, despite all the lime juice, browned up a bit. It was not so photogenic. It begged me to not take its picture.
And so did she. But I didn’t listen.
Mama was happy to pose for the camera!
And so was I. And look, I showered for the occasion!
Again, trying to be artsy by taking my photo in the side mirror. And if you look in the background, you’ll see that Miriam still doesn’t want her picture taken.
We were all in the car on our way to the apple farm!
Why, thank you!
Heh?
We got apples (cortlands and macouns), bartlett pears, and butternut squash at the first farm. We visited two other farm stands, where we got tomatoes, eggplant, seckel pears, and corn. There’s nothing better than fresh produce right from the farm. These are the kind of snacks that will keep me on track!
But a little ice cream never killed anyone, right?

Hi! Thanks for reading my blog. Good luck with the evening snacking.
The muffins look great!

Oh damn. That reminds me: I gotta get out to the paddock and pick our seckel pears. I should have done it a week ago. I’m behind. Big surprise.
P.S. I covet your pizza. Why don’t I make pizza more? I should make pizza more.

They won’t learn *ANYTHING* about apples!

Hangry Pants: Thanks for stopping by! And the muffins are great.
Kristin: I’m glad I could help you out with your chores. That pizza was quite tasty. I should make pizza more often, too.
Homer: That’s Lisa, our little walking lie-berry!

Which farms did you go to? The fresh fruit looks delish. The pizza looks yummy – even though its ingredients would probably kill me – and I love the cutting boards. The key to not overeating is ….eating only until you are full and then leaving the house – to do what, I am not sure – I guess to walk away from the food and be busy doing other stuff – of course I haven’t gotten that far yet. Nice photogs of the fam.

A trip to the apple farm with my little girls – what could be better??
The apples are delish, the pears sweet, and I will cook the “tatouie” and applesauce on Wednesday.
Sure wish someone had brought a muffin for me to taste! Maybe on our road trip with a cup of joe.

We went to Golden Harvest and two farm stands (I don’t remember the names of them). I like your plan to stop overeating! It seems like leaving the house is the only way to do it…unless you leave the house and end up at a coffee place or something. *Sigh.* Temptation is everywhere.

Oh crap, Mama! I forgot to bring you a muffin! I could use one right about now, too (my need to snack will never end). But do you know where they are? In the fuh-reeeee-zuh!
9-15-2009 at 10:41:08
HA HA! The Fuh-reee-zuh! It gets me every time!
9-16-2009 at 05:54:57
Just don’t put the cereal in the Fuh-reeeee-zuh! It doesn’t taste right after that….

wow! i had no idea you were such a big cook! that’s a lot of muffins… u think u could send a couple of the chocolate chip ones down to NC for me? if you don’t mind, i’m totally going to steal your idea and get some of that pizza dough from trader joe’s… your pizza looks really good and i actually prefer whole wheat dough when i can find it. please don’t post too many of your meals, i have a tendency to read your blog in the mornings and your food looks really good, which means i get hungry!!!!!
9-16-2009 at 21:18:36
Thanks for stopping by, Ryan! I hope NC is treating you well. I don’t cook that much, but I do like to make my own stuff most of the time. You should totally get the Trader Joe’s dough; just bake it a bit before you put the toppings on (it’s a bit thick, so it stays a bit doughy otherwise). You should make your own muffins and eat them in the morning when you get hungry reading about my food!

DUDE: Go visit http://www.smittenkitchen.com/ One of the best food blogs EVER. She actually just had a baby, though, so don’t be thrown when you visit her page and see baby pictures. She isn’t cooking infants, I promise.

Hey, just stopping by to say I found your blog through Meghann’s, and it’s awesome! I totally feel the same way you do about…well, blogging, eating, losing weight, etc! I was thinking about starting to post some more meals too, for accountability. And no one reads my blog either! (although that’s not really true for either of us, but I KNOW that feeling. Ugh sucks to not be one of the popular girls haha)

JT: I’ve been to that site before, but not for a while, so I’ll check it out again. Thanks for the baby warning, though; I’d be worried.

Hallie: Thank you for your comment! It made my day! I’m off to catch up on your site now. Great job on your weight loss! You should be really proud of yourself. And I’m used to not being one of the popular girls.
