It turns out I don’t have a bone chip in my ankle. Or it’s not loose, anyway. The doctor called me yesterday (after ignoring my messages on Wednesday and Thursday) to tell me that my MRI showed the defect in my ankle, which is genetic (thanks, Mom!), and that I possibly had an old injury that healed, but currently, no other problem. He said he’ll treat it like he would treat a sprain. So I have to do exercises, and I don’t have to wear the boot, which is great because I think it was causing more problems in my leg (and it was just irritating to wear). It still hurts, and I can’t do any walking or running until I see him in two weeks, but I won’t have to have surgery, so that’s good news.
I can’t seem to shake the sinus problem and the coughing, though, despite the new, heavy-duty medication. I may have to break down and buy Granny’s suggestion of a nose bidet (more commonly called a neti pot). People swear by it, but I have a problem with sticking stuff up my nose, so I’ve been hesitant to try it. But I’m pretty sick of coughing and blowing my nose, so maybe I shouldn’t be so negative about it.
Anyway, I just thought I should post an update. The pity party is not quite over, but it’s not as pitiful as it was. Next up: trying to figure out why the hallway in my apartment building sounds like my old dorm hallway. Sharrup, people. I would go out there to face the problem, but I’m too much of a coward, and I don’t like confrontation. And it would be like admitting that I’m old. I’ll go make dinner instead. Food fixes everything!

Yay to no surgery! And yay to getting rid of that boot. Give it the boot!
Food does fix everything…mmmmm, food.

Glad the boot is gone. Hope you feel better with the sinus thing soon. As for the hallway, it’s probably poor construction – and noisy, obnoxious neighbors.
What yummy food did you make? Food does fix everything! I finally broke down and defrosted my chicken soup last night and am actually feeling better today!
Happy Sunday!

Lil: I finally (long after I wrote this post) made an open-faced toasted cheese sandwich. Doesn’t sound like much, but it does make me happy. I’m glad you’re feeling better!

I tried a neti pot once. I didn’t care for it personally, but it does seem to work for a lot of people . . .

Kristin: Someone suggested to me that if I do get the neti pot, I may want to use it in the shower! I’m still on the fence; it sounds gross.
Mama: Twas a good dinner. Love you, too. And food does fix everything. I can’t wait to go home and eat everything in sight.

Oh man, you weren’t joking about the bad ankle problems. Now I’m all worried that I’ll go to the physical therapist and they’ll tell me to stop running, which I won’t do because I’m determined to run this race, so instead of being willfully ignorant, I’ll just be plain stupid.

Wiggs, did you read my first post on this subject? All about my misery? This wasn’t even the worst of it. Anyway, today the pain has come and gone. Better to rest it now than have it turn into something permanent.

Hi Sara, thanks for your comment on my blog. Take that ankle thing easy…you don’t want to wind up worse than you are now. I don’t know if you read about my whole injury debaucle, but I didn’t give things time to heal like they should, went to the wrong doctors, etc. and had to have surgery. Sucky.
Sara(h)s rule, by the way.

So happy to see you here, Sarah! I have been taking it easy on the ankle, and it seems much better today. I’m doing my ankle exercises daily and trying not to get too frustrated staying off of it. OK, that’s a lie. I’m totally frustrated. I even went to the gym the other day to use the bike (the doctor said that would be fine), but I was too bored. I did read about your injury, and I’m glad that your recovery seems to be going so well! (Oh, and we do rule. Fo’ real.)
