As I mentioned in my previous post, I had an eye infection that caused me to wear my glasses for two weeks. I also had to put drops in my eyes every two hours for four days and then four times a day after that. Until today, when the doctor declared me cured. Actually, she said, “You can stop all everything now.” And I had to ask her if I could put my contacts back in. Sort of like when I had to ask her three times if it was an ulcer in my eye like the urgent care doctor told me it was, finally pulling “it’s an infection” out of her. Thanks for my diagnosis, doc. Anyway, after two weeks of blurriness made worse by the disorientation my glasses cause me, I’m back to my contacts. I really see so much better with them. I hope my eye doesn’t get inflamed overnight again. And it’ll be nice to wear makeup again; I was afraid it would be contaminated, so I’ve worn nothing. This will be better for everyone.
Now, the sad news: I wrote in my last post that I had to work last Saturday night. What I forgot to mention was that I am very grateful to have had that job to go to last Saturday. A week ago, we received an e-mail at work telling us about all the changes being made in our company due to financial difficulties, the worst being 30 layoffs. The other changes are pretty bad: longer hours for less pay, loss of our 401(k) matching contributions, and the possibility that this is just the beginning of such changes. It’s been a pretty long week of worry and sadness. But even with all the changes that will affect all of us, I’m one of the lucky ones.
Now, to end on a happier note, my cousin Lil sent my mother a delicious fruit basket:

I think the whole basket has been eaten. Except for my favorite part:

They’re chocolate-covered bananas! Bananas. Dipped in white and dark chocolate. Did I mention I love bananas? And chocolate? Here’s another close-up shot of some of the leftovers so you can see the double dipping:
Thanks, Lil! How did you know? Have you heard my banana song? Have I revealed too much?

Nice to have you back, Sara. I also loved the fruit basket…but not the bananas. Have I mentioned how much I do not like bananas?

Mmm, chocolate . . . you can keep the bananas, though.
Did anyone in your department get cut?

Miriam: You’re the only one who doesn’t like bananas. It’s weird. Maybe when our genes split, I got all the banana-loving ones.
Kristin: No one in my department…yet. There’s always a possibility that there will be more layoffs.

Glad you liked the fruit and more importantly that Mama is feeling better. Sara, I am sorry to hear of your job woes – unfortunately, there are many many jobs that are telling their employees the same thing. It still sucks though.

X: The bananas were good. I hope this means you like bananas. I just don’t trust banana haters. And yes, that includes my twin sister.
