Today is my mom’s birthday! Here are some interesting things that happened throughout history on January 25 (most found on this site):

1533 – England’s King Henry VIII marries Anne Boleyn (approximate date)
1799 – 1st U.S. patent for a seeding machine, Eliakim Spooner, Vermont
1802 – Napoleon elected president of Italian (Cisalpine) Republic
1851 – Sojourner Truth addresses 1st Black Women’s Rights Convention (Akron)
1870 – Soda fountain patented by Gustavus Dows
1875 – Anti-slavery society forms (NY)
1881 – Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell form the Oriental Telephone Company
1915 – Alexander Graham Bell in NY calls Thomas Watson in SF
1937 – Soap opera “Guiding Light” premieres on radio (Granny would really like this one!)
1940 – Nazi decrees establishment of Jewish ghetto in Lodz Poland
1949 – 1st Israeli election – Ben-Gurion’s Mapai party wins
1951 – Mama was born in Syracuse, NY (See what I did there? Anyone paying attention?)
1961 – Walt Disney’s “101 Dalmations” released
1964 – Beatles 1st U.S. #1, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (Cashbox) (And I really like this one!)
1970 – Robert Altman’s “M*A*S*H” premieres
1974 – Christian Barnard transplants 1st human heart without removal of old
1980 – Paul McCartney is released from Tokyo jail and deported
1981 – 52 Americans held hostage by Iran for 444 days arrived back in U.S.
1984 – We move to the house where Mama currently resides (Again, so clever.)
1985 – “We Are the World” is recorded
1988 – George Harrison releases “When We Was Fab”
