So I’ve been neglectful. It’s not like anyone reads this blog anyway.
The Pie, Mowgli, and The Duck came to visit (with their parents) on the date of my previous post and stayed for a week. We did lots of fun things, such as playing Bingo at the Chanukah dinner at the shul, running around a playground in the rain, and enjoying some goodies at Professor Java’s. On New Year’s Eve, I fell asleep with The Pie around 11:00. My sister woke me up at 11:30. “You didn’t want to be sleeping now, right?” she asked. Sure, guess not. But that’s OK; I got to ring in the new year with my sister and brother-in-law while we watched a silly 2008 wrap-up on VH1. Good times (and spanikopita) were had by (almost) all (sorry, Ray). No noisemakers were involved (unless you include the kids, although not even The Duck was up at midnight that night!).
Other than that, things in Absurdland are the same as usual. Happy 2009, folks!

You mean you were going to sleep through the excitement? Happy 2009 to you, too.

I always suspected I was a nobody, and now you’ve confirmed it. BOO. And happy new year!

#1 b-i-l: You are correct: You snooze, you lose! And the second lesson of the new year is that I should post more often so you can comment more often.
Kristin: You are hardly a nobody. You are anyone!

I am wondering always if it is spana-KOH-pih-tuh or spana-koh-PEETAH. Clarification, please. I must have mumbled the wrong one when I was denied the treat on New Year’s Eve.

Shall I go next door and ask Mom’s neighbors?

Accent on the “ko.” My sister’s best friend in high school was Greek, and I learned how to pronounce all the food. I can even say “gyro” correctly. I’m told the gyro stands at The Great New York State Fair used to give a free gyro to anyone who could pronounce it right. Sadly, they no longer do that.

Thanks, Kristin! I never did go ask my mom’s neighbors; the Internet is so helpful! Also, it’s good to know that we were pronouncing it correctly.

Brother-in-law! Thanks for the shout-out! Sara alerted me to it in my comments, but my stupid comment-notification BLOWS and I didn’t see her comment until just now. Happy New Year to you all too.
