Picture it: Albany, 2008. I’m at work. I go online to check the news and read something very sad.
Estelle Getty died today, just three days before her 85th birthday. Anyone who knows me knows my love for The Golden Girls. Or you should, anyway. I can watch the same episode one hundred times (oh, and I have) and still laugh like it’s the first time I’m seeing it. Estelle Getty played Sophia, of course, and she was the perfect little old lady. Here are some of my favorite Sophia moments (well, that I could find on You Tube; the last two clips are among my favorite Sophia lines, and I hope to find one more of my absolute favorites, so check back!).

We are sad! Kristin, the first comment is from another former proofer, and it’s all we can talk about. Guess they’ll never have a proper reunion now.

I have remained silent for a day, since I have been so sad over the loss of a “Golden Girls” star. Rest in peace, Estelle. I will remember you fondly.

Much sadness. I have to say, though, that Bea Arthur was always my favorite. I have convinced myself that she is immortal because I don’t want to think of a world without Bea Arthur.
