Today is the 40th anniversary of the day The Beatles recorded the song Across the Universe. So, in honor of that anniversary and its 50th anniversary, NASA declared today “Across the Universe Day” and beamed the song directly into deep space! The song traveled toward the North Star at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. Paul McCartney’s sent the following statement to NASA: “Amazing! Well done, NASA! Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul.” NASA has put together a music video for everyone’s enjoyment. This is the second time Paul McCartney has been involved in beaming a song into space. At a November 2005 concert, Paul woke the astronauts on the International Space Station with the song Good Day Sunshine. Here’s that video.

On an unrelated note, tomorrow is Super Tuesday (and Fat Tuesday, so Super Fat Tuesday). Don’t forget to vote.
