It’s been a slow week all over the place. Everyone I’ve talked to says they’ve been bored. The days have moved slowly. I have no work to do. So I thought I’d post a few things that I’ve read to keep me busy this week (in between apartment hunting and my almost constant Daily Kos perusal).
I actually read this last week (I think), but this is a great article from The Onion: Sources: George Clooney Looking Good. Ah yes, he sure is.
I first read last week that Paul McCartney had an angioplasty performed sometime last fall. Lots of worried posts (from others) on various Paul e-mail lists followed, saying things like “I thought he looked horrible!” and discussing the various types of things that could be wrong with him. Paul finally updated his website to say that it’s not true, he never had surgery, and his heart is just fine. Go check out his amusing post; my favorite part was this: “…don’t believe everything you read in the media.” Ain’t that the truth, Paul.
I read about politics a lot. I rarely post about it here, though. But I’m gearing up for the Democratic primary coming up (Tuesday, February 5th here; don’t forget to vote!). We have a great field of candidates out there this time around. I will have no problem supporting any of the remaining candidates who win the nomination. However, I’ll be voting for John Edwards in the primary. I like certain things about all the candidates (perhaps we could merge them into one super-Democratic candidate!), but the others seem to be lacking the leadership quality that John Edwards possesses (among other reasons I like him). You may have been wondering why you haven’t heard too much about him in the news. “Is he still running?” you may ask. Check out his site; he shows examples here of how the media has turned this into a two-candidate race. Then look through the rest of the site to see where he stands on the issues. You may find that you agree with him and that you like how he stands up for the sometimes forgotten middle class. He’s also the most progressive of the three candidates. I can go on and on, but I won’t. Go read about his campaign here.
And while you’re checking out all the sites, don’t forget to check out the new sites I added to my blogroll (which I mentioned in a previous post. I’ve added a new one today: Colbert Nation! I don’t know why I didn’t add this one before now; just another thing I forgot about.

OT: Hi Sara,
Bad news — my friend Janet died yesterday.
You were kind enough to contribute to a diary I wrote back in November about her brain cancer death sentence.
I printed the diary and comments out and gave it to her and her family. She and they very much appreciated the concern that the Daily Kos community showed for a stranger in need.
Nice blog you have here; I’ll be back
And thanks again for your comments about Janet.

Miriam,
As you hopefully know, if you’re the Miriam who commented on my DKos diary, I sent thank-you messages to everyone who commented whose e-mail addy I could find.
Or, in Sara’s case, her website.
So you evidently lost a father and a son to this terrible disease. I’m so sorry.
Thank you so much for your empathy for strangers, like me and the hundreds at Janet’s wake tonight, affected by glioblastoma.
The memories there — a DVD with scores of photos of Janet at her liveliest, telling and hearing stories about Janet, etc. — were wonderful, if tearful.
I hope you and Sara have, and cherish, similar memories of your loved ones who have died from glioblastoma, or whatever.
Thanks again.

She’s not the same Miriam who lost her son.
It’s wonderful that you have all those photos and stories of Janet’s life, and I appreciate you coming to the site to tell us about her. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.
